Meet Our Team

Douglas is a Founder and Managing Partner of Northstar Capital. Doug has broad experience as a private equity investor encompassing financial management, transaction due diligence, and fund administration. He is responsible for all aspects of investment management at Northstar, coordinates investor relations, investment origination, portfolio management and administration of the General Partner.

Prior to founding Northstar, Doug served in various roles at Churchill Capital, Inc. including Controller and Portfolio Compliance Officer. He also has previous experience as a senior accountant at Charles Bailly & Company. Doug received a B.B.A. from the University of North Dakota. Doug is a CFA® Charterholder and Certified Public Accountant (inactive). Doug enjoys running, youth hockey, and volunteer activities.

Brian is a Managing Partner of Northstar Capital. Brian has broad experience as a private equity investor encompassing financial management, transaction due diligence, and fund administration. He is responsible for all aspects of investment management at Northstar, coordinates investor relations, investment origination, portfolio management and administration of the General Partner.

Previously Brian was with Norwest Bank (Wells Fargo & Company) in operations and lending functions. Brian received a B.A in Business and Economics from the University of Minnesota at Morris and a M.B.A. from the University of Minnesota. Brian enjoys all sports including running, coaching, golf and snow sports.

Christopher is a Managing Partner of Northstar Capital. Chris is involved in all aspects of investment management at Northstar including investor relations, investment origination, portfolio management and administration of the General Partner.

Prior to joining Northstar Capital, Chris served as a Director for Lazard Middle Market (formerly known as Goldsmith Agio Helms), where he advised both private and public companies in a broad range of corporate finance transactions and advisory assignments. During his career in public accounting with Coopers & Lybrand, LLC and PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP, Chris developed a comprehensive knowledge of accounting standards and gained extensive experience in analyzing and evaluating the accounting systems and internal control structures of his clients. Chris received a B.A. in Accounting from the University of Notre Dame. Chris enjoys running, playing hockey, and volunteer activities.

Daniel is a Partner at Northstar Capital. He is involved in investment due diligence, portfolio management and investment origination activities.

Prior to joining Northstar, Daniel was a Credit Analyst for LaSalle Bank, a Chicago-based commercial bank specializing in middle-market lending. Earlier in his career, Daniel worked for ITG Trading Company trading treasury notes and bond futures electronically. Daniel received a B.A. in both Finance and Economics from the University of Wisconsin and a M.B.A. at the University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management.

Ethan is a Partner with Northstar Capital and is involved in investment due diligence, portfolio management and investment origination activities.

Prior to joining Northstar, Ethan served as Financial Analyst within Wells Fargo Bank’s Corporate & Investment Banking Undergraduate Program. Ethan received a B.A. from St. John’s University and a M.B.A. degree at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Ethan is a CFA® Charterholder. As an Eagle Scout, Ethan enjoys most outdoor activities and seasonal sports, volunteering, and spending time with family and friends.

John is a Principal at Northstar Capital. He is involved in investment origination activities, investment evaluation and due diligence, and portfolio monitoring.

Prior to joining Northstar, John served as a Senior Associate for KPMG LLP in the Federal Tax practice specializing in audit assist and tax compliance for Corporations in consumer and industrial markets. John received his B.A. from the University of Notre Dame where he studied Accounting and Economics. He is also a Certified Public Accountant (inactive). John enjoys playing racket sports, watching Notre Dame football, and spending time with his family and friends.

Matthew is a Vice President with Northstar Capital. He is involved in portfolio management, monitoring activities and due diligence.

Prior to joining Northstar, Matthew served as a Senior Associate within RSM US LLP’s audit practice focusing on clients in the healthcare industry. Matthew received his B.A. from Gustavus Adolphus College where he studied Accounting and is a Certified Public Accountant (inactive). In his free time, Matthew enjoys running, cycling, golf, baseball, the outdoors and spending time with his friends and family.

Joseph is a Vice President with Northstar Capital. He is involved in portfolio management, monitoring activities and due diligence.

Prior to joining Northstar, Joe was a commercial banking credit analyst at U.S. Bank. Joe received his B.A. in finance from the Minnesota State University Moorhead and masters in investment management & financial analysis from Creighton University. Joe is a CFA® Charterholder. He enjoys all things sports, going to the lake in the summer and spending time with his family and friends.

Makenzie is a Vice President, Business Development with Northstar Capital. She is responsible for coordinating and enhancing business development and marketing strategies.

Prior to joining Northstar, Makenzie served as a Marketing Specialist at JP Willman Realty Twin Cities. She received her B.S. in Business Marketing and Management from Northern State University. Makenzie enjoys teaching yoga, traveling, the outdoors, and spending time on the lake with her family and friends.

Kendall is a Senior Associate with Northstar Capital. She is involved in portfolio management, monitoring activities and due diligence.

Prior to joining Northstar, Kendall was an Investment Analyst at Advantage Capital. Kendall received her B.A. in Economics and Psychology from Colgate University. Kendall enjoys running, playing hockey, and spending time with friends and family.

Colin is an Associate with Northstar Capital. He is involved in portfolio management, monitoring activities and due diligence.

Prior to joining Northstar, Colin was a Senior Associate for Deloitte in the International Tax group specializing in global restructuring and M&A consulting. He received his B.A. in Accounting from Marquette University and is a Certified Public Accountant. Colin enjoys skiing in the winter, spending time with his friends and family, and watching all kinds of sports.

Johnny is an Associate with Northstar Capital. He is involved in portfolio management, monitoring activities and due diligence.

Prior to joining Northstar, Johnny was an Associate at Piper Sandler in the Investment Banking group specializing in Medical Technology and Devices. He received his B.S. in Finance from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University Bloomington. Johnny enjoys spending time with his friends and family, walking his dog, and watching Indiana University sports.

Tim is a Partner, Chief Financial Officer, and Chief Compliance Officer at Northstar Capital. He is responsible for financial management of the General Partner and its limited partnerships, compliance by Northstar with the US Advisors Act of 1940, fund administration, portfolio maintenance and all office operating activities.

Prior to re-joining Northstar, Tim served as Chief Financial Officer at Northland Securities, Inc., a full service FINRA registered broker dealer with offices in multiple states. Prior to Northland and his role as an Investment Manager at Northstar Capital, Tim gained investment and tax experience at the Opus Group of companies and began his career in tax at KPMG.

Tim received a B.A. in accounting from the University of St. Thomas and a MBT from the University of Minnesota. Tim is a CFA Charterholder and Certified Public Accountant (inactive). He is active in Boy Scouts, enjoys most outdoor activities and spending time with his family.

Kyle is a Vice President, Controller at Northstar Capital. He is involved in the financial management of the General Partner and its limited partnerships, fund administration, portfolio maintenance and all office operating activities.

Prior to joining Northstar, Kyle served as an Accounting Manager for Incenter Securities Group, LLC, which is a FINRA registered broker dealer with offices in multiple states. Prior to Incenter, he served as an Accounting Manager at Pine River Capital Management and began his career in assurance at PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Kyle received a B.A. in both accounting and finance from the University of Minnesota, and is a Certified Public Accountant (inactive). As an Eagle Scout, Kyle enjoys most outdoor activities and seasonal sports, volunteering and spending time with family and friends.

Melinda is a Fund Accounting Manager at Northstar Capital. She is involved with accounting, financial reporting and investor relations for Northstar’s limited partnerships and management company.

Prior to joining Northstar, Melinda served as an Associate for KPMG LLP specializing in tax compliance for alternative investment management clients. Prior to KPMG LLP, she served as a Credit Analyst for Medtronic Inc. Melinda has a B.S. in Accounting from St Catherine’s University. She enjoys traveling, cooking food from different countries, and spending time with family and friends.

Tyler is a Fund Accounting Manager at Northstar Capital. He is involved with accounting, financial reporting and investor relations for Northstar’s limited partnerships and management company.

Prior to joining Northstar, Tyler served as an Assistant Controller for Colliers Securities, LLC, a FINRA registered broker dealer with offices in multiple states. Prior to Colliers, he served as a Senior Analyst at Varde Partners, Inc. and a Senior External Reporting Analyst for Pine River Capital Management. Tyler received a B.A. in Accountancy from North Dakota State University. In his free time, Tyler likes spending time with family and friends.
